🌍 Origin
Coffee was introduced to Istanbul in the mid-16th century by Yemeni merchants — the city's first coffeehouses (kıraathane) opened in Tahtakale around 1554 and quickly became the intellectual and social centres of Ottoman life. Turkish coffee was one of the world's first brewed coffee traditions and is now listed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
