🌍 Origin
Burrata was created in Puglia, southern Italy, in the early 20th century — specifically in the town of Andria around 1920. A cheesemaker needed to use up leftover mozzarella scraps (stracciatella) and wrapped them in a thin mozzarella shell to form a pouch. The name comes from 'burro' (butter) — a nod to the cream inside. It arrived in Istanbul's restaurant scene in the 2010s as the modern bistro movement emerged.

🍽️ How to Eat
Serve burrata at room temperature — never cold, which dulls the cream. Cut it open at the table so the stracciatella and cream pour out. Eat immediately with good bread, heirloom tomatoes, prosciutto or simply olive oil and sea salt. The entire ball is meant to be shared and consumed in one sitting.
